According to a new poll, President Joe Biden's approval rating among Americans has hit an all-time low with growing frustration over inflation and the economy.
The poll, conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post, found that just 37% of Americans currently approve of the president, with 55% disapproving.
Biden's approval numbers are down 4% since November and 15% since April of 2021 when Biden had been in office for only four months, the poll found.
The low poll numbers for Biden are giving Republicans an advantage going into the 2022 midterm election when the GOP will look to regain control of Congress, the poll released Sunday showed.
The poll found that 54% of Americans think Republicans would better handle the economy, while only 35% believe Democrats would. As for who they want in control of Congress, 50% supported the GOP, with 40% backing Democrats.
Those who responded said they think Republicans could act as a check on Biden and his policies better than Democrats could.
As for the president, the significant factors asked of respondents in the poll were Biden's handling of the economy, which only 37% approve of while 58% disapprove, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which 44% approve and 50% disapprove.
Regarding who Americans trust more to handle the pandemic, 43% said Democrats, with 37% responding Republicans.
Biden currently has one of the lowest approval ratings of any president heading into their first State of the Union address, the speech Biden is preparing to give on Tuesday, the poll reported.
Only former President Donald Trump had a lower rating of 36%, going back to Harry Truman. Biden is tied with Gerald Ford at 37%.
The poll surveyed 1,011 Americans between Feb. 20 and 24 and reported a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
