President Joe Biden and his family are safe following an incident where a plane entered restricted airspace in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, said White House officials cited by CNN Saturday.
“A small private plane entered restricted airspace, all indications are by mistake, and precautionary measures were taken,” according to an official. “There was no threat to the president or his family.”
However, they said that Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were temporarily moved as a precautionary measure. According to Fox News, they were moved to a nearby fire station. During the move, the pool of journalists that typically travels with the president were not assembled.
“The White House notified the traveling press pool of the incident nearly an hour after it occurred,” said CNN.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, the privately-owned plane entered airspace near the Biden’s beach house by mistake around 1 p.m. Saturday. It was immediately escorted out of the area.
So far, an investigation into the incident indicates the private plane’s pilot was not in the proper radio channel, was not following the NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) that had been filed and was not following published flight guidance. The Secret Service plans to interview the pilot.
