An expecting mother is dead, and two others are fighting for their lives after their car was hit by an off-duty Dallas Police officer earlier Saturday morning.

The fatal crash happened just after 2:30 a.m., and based on evidence found at the scene, Dallas County Sheriff's deputies determined a Chevy Malibu was stalled in the center lane of Interstate 30 and 2nd Avenue when it was rear-ended by an off-duty Dallas police officer driving a Jeep Wrangler.

The occupants of the Malibu, including a pregnant woman, were rushed to a local hospital. Two of the occupants are in critical condition, and the pregnant mother was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

The woman's baby was removed from their mother, surviving the crash, but is also in critical condition, according to deputies. The deceased victim's name has not been released.

The officer, the only person inside the Jeep, received a medical evaluation and was released from the hospital.
