Duck hunters stumble upon human remains

Two duck hunters who were scouting a wooded area of North Carolina stumbled upon human remains instead of a prime hunting location, authorities shared on Tuesday.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office shared a statement on the incident, noting that the remains were discovered Monday evening by two local hunters in a wooded area near a highway about 60 miles north of Charlotte.

After deputies arrived on the scene, they worked with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to secure and process the area.

The identity of the remains was not shared as investigators continued to investigate more about how the person died and who they were. It’s also unknown how long the remains have been there, as no other details were shared about the case.

This isn’t the first time that hunters have discovered human remains.

Last year, in South Carolina, a hunter found a human skull that was later found to be more than a decade old.

Similar discoveries have been made in Indiana, where a waterfowl hunter found skeletal human remains while hunting; Wisconsin, where a deer hunter in September found the remains of a preschool-age boy named Elijah Vue who had been missing since February; and Pennsylvania, where another skull was found by a hunter.

The investigation into the latest discovery remains ongoing.
