A 35-year-old man who was kicked out of a football watch party is being held on charges including first-degree murder after he allegedly rammed his truck into a crowd of people at the gathering.
Police said it happened Saturday night during the rivalry game between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
Witnesses told police that Clinton Cottom showed up uninvited to his neighbor's house party in Bedlam, Oklahoma, about a half hour outside of Tulsa. Cottom was allegedly asked to leave the party for being too drunk and making unwanted sexual advances toward several women. Police said he refused to leave and had to be restrained from coming back inside.
Cottom eventually left, went to his home down the street and got into his truck, according to police. He then came back and plowed his truck "at a high rate of speed" into a crowd of people who had gathered outside the home, police said. His truck hit several cars in the driveway, pinning a man between two vehicles. He was airlifted from the scene with critical injuries.
After striking one of the vehicles, police say Cottom's truck flipped over and pinned a woman underneath. Others tried to save the woman, identified as Terri McCauley, but she was declared dead at the scene.
A second woman who was also hit was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Jason Medlock, whose wife was injured, said Cottom was in a rage like he's never seen before.
"There was death in his eyes. When he swung around on the second hit, I saw his face as clear as day. I'll never forget," Medlock told KOTV. "He tried to get everybody. Anybody that is out there that says that man didn't have any kind of intent, doesn't know what they are talking about."
Cottom was arrested on charges including first-degree murder, sexual battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Formal charges have not yet been filed. Records indicate Cottom is due back in court on December 1.
