First Lady Melania Trump, who sometimes avoids the spotlight, was expected to be out and about to see the LSU Tigers play the Alabama Crimson Tide at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
Her trip to check out the college football game came as part of the Fostering the Future endowment fund initiative, according to a press release from the White House. It said that Melania and Louisiana State University secured $5 million to establish this permanent endowment to provide LSU students who experienced foster care with scholarships.
“First Lady Melania Trump will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to advance her Fostering the Future initiative with a special announcement at Louisiana State University,” the press release said.
Then, it said Melania would attend the “highly anticipated” college football game. Audacy’s WWL noted that this game is part of college football’s version of Elimination Saturday.
“The stakes are significant,” WWL’s Jeff Palermo explained. “The loser will face a much tougher path to the College Football Playoff, particularly Alabama. The Crimson Tide has a relatively favorable schedule remaining, with games against Vanderbilt, Chattanooga and Auburn.”
At the same time, Palermo said that LSU “would still have opportunities to strengthen its playoff résumé with victories over Texas and Tennessee, both of which are ranked ahead of the Tigers in the CFP rankings.”
Earlier this week, the first lady gathered leaders from Russia and Ukraine at the White House, even as a Russian invasion of Ukraine continues. Previously, Melania helped children displaced by the Russian invasion.
“The occasion is believed to mark the first time in American history that a First Lady has personally brought representatives of two nations actively at war together to the White House for diplomacy,” said the White House of this week’s gathering.
During the meeting, Melania discussed a ceasefire established in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky. Per the Institute for the Study of War nonprofit, the ceasefire shows that Russia has the ability to end civilian suffering in Ukraine.
“Now, we must use the courage we brought to Oleshky to find common ground through a shared concern for the suffering of innocent people,” said Melania. “Together, we can create something more enduring than a temporary ceasefire. Let us see Oleshky as a spark in a world of darkness, capable of illuminating the best in humanity. Build a powerful flame of peace, visible to the world. Ignite hope, foster cooperation, and brighten a path toward lasting peace,” said First Lady Melania Trump.”
Melania also made headlines this week when the first trailer for her new two-part docuseries, “MELANIA, The Series” was released on Friday. People magazine reported that Melania talked about her close relationship with her and President Donald Trump’s 20-year-old son, Barron.

“I’m a mother, a wife, also first lady,” Melania said in the trailer. “He’s my priority. He will always be my priority.”
Audacy reported in August that Barron, a New York University student, had been staying out of the spotlight due to security concerns.
