SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – As “It’s Generational” panelist Julia Scotti said, what we think of as “funny” is constantly evolving.
Streaming platforms have become more popular, audiences have become more fractured, and sometimes it feels like our ideas about “funny” are now growing further apart – especially from generation to generation.

For the latest round of “It’s Generational” episodes, we dove deep into TV, entertainment and comedy. We explored what we miss, what we hope to see in the future and more.
In addition to Scotti, a baby boomer standup comedian and subject of the documentary “Julia Scotti: Funny That Way”; Gen Z/millennial cusp comedy duo Syd & Olivia (Syd Heller and Olivia DeLaurentis) joined the show, along with Audacy’s managing producer for national news podcasts, Myron Kaplan.
First, they tackled how TV – and comedy in particular – has changed over the past decades.
“People from our generation who will make content are basically just directly, you know, taking the content that they’ve seen from an older generation and being like: ‘That totally influenced me – now I’m just making something similar,’” said Heller.
A team of experts also joined the show to explain how TV and comedy are changing from different angles. You’ll hear from: Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz, showrunner of “Gordita Chronicles”; Dr. Ryan Poll, a professor at Northeastern Illinois University and author of “Aquaman and the War against Oceans”, as well as Michael Tran of UCLA, a co-author of the Hollywood Diversity Report.
