A kitten has been rescued after it fell down a 30-foot-deep drain in New York.

The incident happened last week on Long Island, where passersby heard the kitten crying from the bottom of the drain.

However, because the drain had a 5,000-pound concrete slab over the opening, getting to the distressed feline was no easy task, according to Strong Island Animal Rescue.

"The feeling we had while getting him out was similar to 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' when they were removed the slab from the well of the souls to get the treasure, the ark," the rescue league posted on Facebook, along with photos of the kitten. "Well getting this kitten felt the same way when were moving the slab to get a treasure as well, this little kitten!"

Police and Strong Island employees worked through the night, using jacks and a jaws of life device to lift the slab of concrete, WABC reported.

Finally, a trap was lowered into the drain and the kitten was rescued.

The kitten -- named Lawrence -- is in good health and will be ready for adoption soon, according to the rescue league.
