CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago man has been talking the homeless into getting off the streets in this bitter cold and setting them up with meals and hotel rooms.

Video shows Jermaine Jordan helping a man out of a tent. The man, he said, lost fingers to frostbite. Jordan has been getting people out of tent cities and El trains, getting them meals and a warm place to stay.

He spoke to CBS 2.

"My hope is to be able to give them somewhere; hopefully be able to reach out and get them better resources, you know - because shelters are full,"

"It's been really, really cold out there," said Lisa Esterdahl, who is homeless and was helped by Jordan. "My hands get numb. My toes get numb. I've been having to sleep on the L's."

Jordan is doing this with money raised online, which is enough to pay for hotel rooms for more than 60 people for a week.

“I can’t believe this, it’s like a dream," said one of the men he helped.

The city has been helping people get off the streets, too. In some cases, they don’t want to go to shelters.
