WASHINGTON (1010 WINS) -- U.S. Capitol Police in Washington arrested a 55-year-old Michigan man Tuesday morning from parking a "suspicious" SUV in front of the Supreme Court of the United States — two months after he made previous "concerning statements" at the Capitol.

Dale Paul Melvin was arrested for failure to obey and assault on a police officer, the USCP said.

Authorities said the standoff began after officers saw Melvin illegally park his Chevy Tahoe in front of the nation's highest court at around 9:30 a.m. and refuse to leave.

The USCP said he also refused to speak with officers, appearing to be frustrated and only said, "The time for talking is done.”

The surrounding area was cleared and he was "extracted" from the vehicle by the USCP Containment and Emergency Response Team.

"One of our teams just moved in and extracted the man from the SUV. The man is in custody. Everyone is safe," U.S. Capitol Police tweeted at 11 a.m., an hour and 10 minutes after it first tweeted about the man's vehicle.

Melvin's car is still being searched though officials said they have not found any weapons.

The incident came one day after the Supreme Court's new term kicked off, and after protesters on both sides of the abortion issue converged on the Court. The Court will take up contentious issues including an abortion rights case that is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade.

"NOW: We are investigating a suspicious vehicle in front of the Supreme Court along First Street, NE. Please stay away from the area. We will provide more information as soon as we can," U.S. Capitol Police initially tweeted.

Police also listed street closures because of the investigation.
