The Los Angeles Police Department has found the driver of a Tesla who walked away from a fiery wreck, leaving behind three passengers who were with him inside.
The single-vehicle accident happened early Monday morning and resulted in the death of one and the three others inside the vehicle being seriously injured, police shared.
Police located the driver, who fled the scene of the Hollywood wreck at a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. He has not yet been identified, as police have been unable to interview him. However, they did note they are positive he is the driver.
The Tesla Model X reportedly hit a lamppost and then a tree at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, after going off the roadway, the police department shared. After the crash, the driver left the vehicle and those inside.
The car soon caught on fire, leaving two critically injured and another person dead, police shared. Two women were pulled from the vehicle by bystanders who were passing by.
Brian Humphrey, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson, shared that the 23 and 24-year-old women were taken to the hospital in critical and serious condition, respectively.
Firefighters with the department found the remains of a person who died in the vehicle after the flames were extinguished, Humphery shared.
After crashing, the driver allegedly entered another car that was believed to be following the Tesla and was brought to the hospital, the LAPD shared in its release.
It is still unknown how the victims know each other, according to Humphery. An investigation remains ongoing.
