A shooting broke out along a beachside promenade in Hollywood, Florida, on Monday evening, resulting in nine people being wounded, authorities said.

The Hollywood Police Department shared Tuesday that investigators had obtained surveillance footage from the area at the time of the shooting. The footage appears to show two people believed to be involved.

Surveillance video and images of the individuals have been released, and the department is asking for anyone who knows them or anyone with information to come forward.

Deanna Bettineschi, a police spokesperson, told The Associated Press that four children were among those injured, all between the ages of 1 and 17, as well as five adults between 25 and 65.

Six of those who were injured, four minors and two adults, were still being cared for as of Tuesday morning, according to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. All are in stable condition.

Police Chief Chris O’Brien said that at the time of the shooting, there were thousands of people in the area. After receiving reports of gunfire, dozens of officers who were nearby responded.

“It’s unfortunate we have law-abiding citizens who come to our beaches, and that gets interrupted by a group of criminals,” O’Brien said.

The city’s mayor, Josh Levy, shared a statement on Tuesday following the shooting, calling the act of violence “completely unacceptable.”

“It is completely unacceptable that innocent people spending time with family on a holiday weekend have been affected by a shooting altercation between two groups who came into our city with guns and no regard for the safety of the law-abiding public around them,” Levy said.

The two groups Levy referred to are believed to have been in an altercation before things escalated and firearms were pulled, CBS Miami reported, citing Hollywood officials.

Police have at least one person in custody, but are continuing to search for more suspects.

“I am thankful for the many good samaritans and the paramedics of Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety who rendered quick emergency aid to the injured at the scene, and thankful for the emergency room doctors and nurses at Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for their life-saving work year-round,” Levy said.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
