Oakland A's announcer Glen Kuiper is in hot water after he dropped the N-word on the air.

The situation occurred during a pregame segment before Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Kuiper, a 20-year veteran, was talking about the broadcasting team's visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum – but said the "N-word" instead of "Negro."

"We had a phenomenal day today," Kuiper said. "N---er League Museum and Arthur Bryant's Barbeque."

No one in the booth acknowledged Kuiper's verbal slip and he continued talking.

It wasn't until the game's sixth inning that Kuiper addressed the issue, apologizing for saying "something" that "didn't come out" as he had intended.

"I just want to ... a little earlier in the show, I said something, didn't come out quite the way I wanted it to," Kuiper said on-air. "I just wanted to apologize if it sounded different than I meant it to be said. And like I said, I just wanted to apologize for that."

The broadcaster doubled down on his apology on Saturday, saying: "I could not be more sorry and horrified by what I said. I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies."

Apparently, Kupier's on-air apology wasn't good enough for the A's. A rep for the team said his use of the racial slur is "unacceptable."

"The Oakland Athletics do not condone such language. We are working to address the situation," the team's PR team posted to Twitter.

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick also addressed the situation.

"I'm aware of the unfortunate slur made by Glen Kuiper. I welcomed Glen to the NLBM yesterday and know he was genuinely excited to be here," Kendrick said in a statement on Twitter. "The word is painful and has no place in our society. And while I don't pretend to know Glen's heart I do know that my heart is one of forgiveness. I hope all of you will find it in yourselves to do the same."

On Sunday, an NBC Sports California spokesperson confirmed to CNN that Kuiper has been suspended indefinitely and will remain off air until a review of the incident is completed.
