One of the four Minneapolis police officers convicted in the murder of George Floyd was released from federal prison on Tuesday.

41-year-old Thomas Lane was found guilty of violating Floyd's civil rights, and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.

Lane was also convicted of state charges of aiding and abetting manslaughter.

That state sentence expires in a year, but court document indicate Lane can be released early into supervised custody.

His federal sentence ended in February, but he remained in custody in Littleton, Colorado.

Lane was one of three officers charged with failing to intervene when fellow former officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for around nine minutes.

Chauvin is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison while Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thau were given shorter sentences.

Lane is now the first of the ex-officers to be released from prison.
