(WWJ) -- Just like that, winter is here.
Northern Michigan is waking up to a winter wonderland Wednesday morning as the region received record-breaking snow overnight.
Gaylord is measuring 11.7 inches of snow, and the Kalkaska area is looking at more than nine inches of snow -- areas to the west of these areas received seven to eight inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist Dan Cornish, in Gaylord, says this is the first accumulating snow for the area.
Cornish also said that Gaylord broke the all-time daily snowfall record compared to their records going back to 1998. He said the previous highest daily snowfall was 10.7 inches on Nov. 18, 2014.
“There was definitely a lot of snow over the past 24 hours up here,” said Cornish.
