
An active shooter situation in South Minneapolis at Annunciation Church near 54th Street and Bryant Ave left two dead and at least 17 injured, per reports.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz wrote on X earlier that "I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School" and "I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence."
Two children aged eight and 10, have been killed and 17 others were injured following the school shooting, police confirm. Of those who are injured, 14 are children, and two are in a critical condition, police say, adding that the shooting happened while kids in kindergarten through eighth grade were in Mass.
The shooter is also dead, authorities confirmed.
WCCO spoke to the manager of a Starbucks at the corner of 54th and Lyndale confirming a huge police presence. The manager said the store is closed and her managers told them to get into the basement.
She also confirmed that she saw several what she believed to be parents nearby when shots rang out. There were so many that people told local TV reporters they thought it was a construction project.
The church has mass every Wednesday morning, including the students, at 8 a.m. It is unclear who the shooter was or if he had any connection to the school.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said "DHS is monitoring the horrific shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
