Have you ever dreamed about being your own boss?

For online entrepreneur Stephanie Matto – who you might remember from the TLC show “90 Day Fiancé” – the opportunity came when her fans began requesting her farts. After making an estimated $200,000 selling fats in jars, she pivoted to offering her “fart jars” as NFTs.

Her story got us interested about how the online economy has opened up opportunities for business people and creators.

To learn more, “Something Offbeat” podcast host Mike Rogers talked to Nate, a software developer and comedian behind the “Terrible Origami” Etsy storefront. He even made a new piece, the “COVID Coupon Brontosaurus” during the interview.

“I would just take out recycling and crumple it up and attach a name to it or description,” he said. “And honestly it just brought me a lot of joy.”

Arabian Prince, a founding member of the rap group N.W.A. and a technologist who founded companies such as MdDAO and Inov8, also joined the show with MdDAO Chief Technology Officer Nick Donarski to help us navigate the world of non-fungible tokens, also known as NFTs.

“It’s going to be to the point to where people are going to use NFTs every single day, just like they use a website,” Arabian Price explained.

Each week, “Something Offbeat” dives into an unusual news story, such as Matto’s flatulence-selling project and online businesses. If you have suggestions for stories we should cover, send them to somethingoffbeat@audacy.com.
