Former President Donald Trump appeared to stumble this week when he was asked in an interview if he thought a man “could become a woman,” a question asked by conservatives challenging transgenderism.

Trump was asked the question by host Megyn Kelly during his appearance on “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Sirius XM.

Kelly asked Trump, “Can a man become a woman?” leading to Trump giving a long, drawn-out “Ummm” as he considered the question.

“In my opinion, you have a man, you have a woman,” he said while shaking his head. “I, I, I think part of it is birth. Can the man give birth? No.”

Still, Trump seemed to leave the door open to the possibility, saying, “They’ll come up with some answer to that also someday.”

“I heard just the other day they have a way that now the man can give birth,” Trump said. “No, I would say I’ll continue my stance on that.”

The exchange also came just moments after he shared he doesn’t support puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors.

“I’m so against it,” Trump said, calling it “the mutilation of children.”

He continued to say that he’s heard “like 62%, when they grow up, when they’re older, they say, Who did this to me? Why did you do this to me?”

Despite this and inevitably saying no, Trump’s fellow GOP nominees have taken the opportunity to pounce on the president.

While speaking before the Concerned Women for America conference in Washington, D.C., Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared to take a shot at Trump’s remarks.

“Don’t tell me a man can become a woman because it’s not true,” DeSantis said. “Don’t tell me a man can get pregnant because it’s not true.”

While he never called out Trump by name, he did say there was “value in standing up for what is true” while continuing to bash the “woke agenda.”

“And what woke agenda is, is it represents a war on the truth itself,” DeSantis said.

Other opponents of Trump, like Erick Erickson, also shared their criticism of his comments last week.

“When a former president cannot and does not immediately say ‘no’ when asked if a man can become a woman, he does not need to be president again,” the right-wing commentator posted on X, formerly Twitter.
