(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A widely shared video on X shows a Chicago police officer pulling a coyote out of the produce section of a grocery store.
That incident took place at an Aldi in Humboldt Park Monday morning shortly before 10.
In the video, an officer can be seen pulling a coyote out from inside the produce by its tail, only for the coyote to go running back into the food.
CBS Chicago reports that Chicago Animal Care and Control took multiple calls about the incident.
The coyote was eventually captured and was set to be transferred to Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Neither the coyote nor any shoppers were injured in the incident.
Chicago Animal Care and Control took to Facebook to warn residents that it is coyote mating season, which does mean increased activity in urban areas.
Tips for if you do encounter a coyote include: keeping pets on a leash, securing food sources, checking your yard before letting dogs out, and staying alert.
People should also not feed a coyote, as this can encourage bold behavior.
