Rapper Kanye West – who grew up in Chicago and has changed his legal name to Ye – has been suspended from the social media app Instagram for violating hate speech policies, according to multiple reports.

While it is not clear what specific posts triggered the suspension, West, 44, has recently drawn attention for posts targeting comedians Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live,” Trever Noah of the “Daily Show” and D.L.
Hughley.

A spokesperson for Meta – the parent company of Instagram and Facebook – told BuzzFeed News and TMZ that Ye would not be able to post, comment, or send direct messages for 24 hours. The spokesperson also said several posts had been removed from the account for violating policies on hate speech, bullying, and harassment.

According to Buzzfeed, Ye posted a screenshot of a Google search for Noah, 38, with a racial slur in the caption after the TV host discussed Ye’s divorce from ex-wife and well-known media personality Kim Kardashian.

Ye has also had a “feud” with Davidson, 28, since the latter reportedly started dating Kardashian, 41. West and Kardashian married in 2014 and divorced this year, according to Elle. The couple has four children together: Chicago, North, Psalm and Saint.

In a text message apparently sent by Kardashian that Ye posted a screenshot of, she said she was worried that his posts would lead to someone hurting Davidson. Ye then released a violent music video showing Davidson being decapitated.

In addition to the video and continued text message posts, Ye also told Hughley, 59, “I can afford to hurt u,” after the comedian commented on the situation.

“Throughout all this, Ye has been deleting some of his posts hours after making them,” said Buzzfeed. “It wasn't immediately clear which posts were taken down by Meta as policy violations and which he removed himself.”

In the past, both Ye and Davidson have opened up about their struggles with mental health.
