(WBEN) - New poll numbers show that New Yorkers generally approve of the job Governor Andrew Cuomo in handling the Coronavirus pandemic, but are still concerned about the virus.
Cuomo’s response to the pandemic has gained approval from 87% of people polled. "The Governor's numbers are through the roof," said Siena College Pollster Steve Greenberg.
Despite Cuomo’s high marks, 92% of New Yorkers say they are very or somewhat concerned about Coronavirus. Nearly one-third of voters say they know someone who has Coronavirus.
Those who responded to the poll also give overwhelmingly high marks to their local health department, Dr. Anthony Fauci, their local government leader, and the CDC.
President Trump gets praise from 82% of Republicans, but 52% of independents and 79% of Democrats disapprove of the job he’s doing.
The poll also shows that about a quarter of households have someone who has been laid off from work. "25% of voters say someone in their household was laid off from work. In New York City, it's one out of every three households. Upstate, it's about one in every five voters," said Greenberg. More than half of all households throughout the state have someone who is working from home.
