There was a monumental moment in Chicago's Diversey Harbor on Tuesday.
Vermont residents Robert Simpson and his 11-year-old son, Gordon, made history by visiting two tripoints in Lake Michigan making them the first to ever visit all 65 tripoints in the U.S. on land and water.
A tripoint is a geographical point at which the borders of three countries or sub-national entities converge.
Robert Simpson told WBBM it has been quite a journey the last four years, saying "It's just amazing. In the middle of the Mississippi, in the middle of the Missouri (River), the middle of the Ohio (River), the Red River, the Snake River, and then all the land tripoints that we've done."
Gordon added, "it has been an amazing journey! So much has happened in these past four years."
Francine Hicks has been with Robert and Gordon nearly every step of the way, saying "they're amazing, what they've gone through...it shows so much determination and perseverance and just a lot of knowing where you're going at a given time."
Captain Bob Bloome, from ChicagoBlueWaters.com and retired from the Chicago Fire Department Air-Sea Rescue, captained the boat as they pulled into Diversey Harbor.
But he said there were some rough seas out there on the lake.
"We hit four foot waves, everything in the cabin was on the floor! ....We were fighting to keep 180 degrees heading...finally the water got a little better out there."
And then, during the small celebration at the dock, it was all hugs and smiles.
