This week's Made in Chicago uses hard steel to create beautiful spaces.

"I like making things that we can be proud of."

That's what Stephen Adzemovic, who runs Wayward Machine Company on Cermak Road on the South Side, told us on a recent visit.

"We make a lot of shelves, a lot of stuff out of brass, and stainless and other metals, copper, bronze, but mostly steel."

Wayward's work can be seen in homes, businesses, and landmarks all over Chicago, including the Willis Tower where they did some brass signs and displays.

Steel and glass window walls, residential railings, kitchen equipment, and signs: Wayward's work forges vision into craftmanship, and, as Adzemovic says, "where construction keeps trending towards cheaper materials and quicker builds, we're trying to do it the old school way. We're proud of what we do, and we're proud of what we put out there. And it's really nice knowing that it's a part of Chicago's architectural history now.

"Ideally we make things to last and ideally it will be part of Chicago's architectural history for years to come. That's something that we all are passionate about here."
