Piping plover chicks born at Waukegan Beach

Earlier this nesting season, piping plovers Blaze and Pippin had their nest washed away in a storm. The DAILY HERALD reports the four eggs were recovered and sent to a piping plover captive-rearing program in Michigan where the eggs later hatched. Now, the Lake County Audubon Society says Blaze---and a new partner Pepper---gave birth to a pair of piping plover chicks on July 19th at Waukegan Beach, and the parents are incubating the two remaining eggs in the nest. Waukegan’s new chicks follow the birth of four piping plovers at Chicago's Montrose Beach in June.
