CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One of the golf courses owned by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is going solar.
By 2021, officials expect to be able to power the 75 golf carts at The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison by solar energy.
The course re-opened last year after undergoing a two-year environmental restoration project.
Now, the DuPage County Forest Preserve District Board has approved a $166,000 plan to install solar panels on the golf cart storage building there.
"We’re a green agency and so we should be leaders and I believe one of the first golf carts that’s going to have a big solar project on it [in the Midwest>," Hebreard said.
Hebreard expects bids to go out in late spring with work expected to start in the fall. The project is expected to be completed in 2021.
The Forest Preserve District President said he's a big fan of solar power and has installed solar panels on his personal home.
