ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It’s out with the old and potentially in with the new as the Chicago Bears look to build a stadium at Arlington Park.

The first phase of demolishing the former race track started Tuesday after the Village of Arlington Heights approved an interior demolition permit last week. Demolition will include knocking down the six-story grandstand along with the office and jockey building. Permits are still pending for demolition on the exterior of the structures.

The village told residents to expect increased traffic around the area, with about 20-30 trucks going back and forth from the site each day.

Filing for demolition at the site doesn't mean for certain that the Bears will be developing it, the team has said.
