WESTFIELD, Ind. (670 The Score) Bears center Cody Whitehair left a joint practice against the Colts on Thursday evening at Grand Park with an apparent right finger/hand injury and didn't return.

Coach Matt Eberflus didn't have an update on Whitehair's status after practice. In his absence, the Bears turned to second-year center Doug Kramer, who's third on the depth chart behind Whitehair and veteran Lucas Patrick.

"Kramer does a nice job," Eberflus said. "Kramer sets the protections. He sets the calls in the run game. Uber smart. He’s quick, athletic. He does a lot of things well."

The Bears have also practiced without veteran right guard Nate Davis throughout most of the preseason. The team has turned to second-year guard Ja'Tyre Carter in that spot.

Davis, who signed a three-year deal with the Bears this past offseason, has practiced in a limited fashion since returning Monday.

"What really matters is I'm back now," Davis said.

Bears receiver Chase Claypool, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, safety Eddie Jackson and safety Jaquan Brisker were among the key starters who didn't practice Thursday.

The Bears will hold out quarterback Justin Fields and select starters when they face the Colts in preseason action Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT from Lucas Oil Stadium.
