LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- The Bears continue to work on forming and configuring their offensive line, a process that will include months of evaluations leading up to the 2022 season. As they do, there’s one change that’s being explored.
The Bears have switched their tackle alignment from last season, with Teven Jenkins sliding to the right tackle position and Larry Borom moving to left tackle. It was the first offensive line formation seen Tuesday during the team’s voluntary minicamp at Halas Hall.
"We're going to play with a lot of different combinations right now to see what guys do best,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus said Tuesday.
A second-round pick of the Bears in 2021, Jenkins played in six games at left tackle as a rookie, starting two. He made his NFL debut on Dec. 5 against the Cardinals after recovering from back surgery in August. Borom, a fifth-round pick last year, played in 10 games, starting eight. He shifted to right tackle once Jenkins returned from injury.
The Bears’ reshaped offensive line includes a new center in veteran Lucas Patrick and an incumbent starter at left guard in Cody Whitehair. The team has a vacancy at right guard, which is presently being filled by Sam Mustipher and Dakota Dozier. However, competition could be added to that position through free agency or the draft.
The Bears will hold practices Wednesday and Thursday as part of their voluntary three-day minicamp, which is afforded to teams working with new head coaches.
