Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson takes a key step toward his return from injury by practicing in full

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson on Thursday took a significant step toward returning to game action.

Johnson practiced in full Thursday afternoon at Halas Hall, marking the first time he had done so since undergoing core muscle surgery in September. It was an indicator that Johnson could perhaps return for Chicago’s game against Pittsburgh on Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Bears must first activate Johnson from injured reserve. The team designated his return last Friday, which opened a 21-day window for his activation.

Johnson has played in part of just one game this season – Chicago’s loss at Detroit on Sept. 14. In that game, he reaggravated a groin injury that had lingered since July.

Bears nickelback Kyler Gordon (calf) was a limited participant in practice Thursday. The team designated him for a return from injured reserve Wednesday.

Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin), linebacker T.J. Edwards (hand/hamstring), running back Travis Homer (thumb) and linebacker Noah Sewell (elbow) didn’t practice Thursday. Center Drew Dalman (knee), cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (hip/calf) and right tackle Darnell Wright (pectoral/back) were limited participants. Right guard Joe Thuney had a veteran's rest day.

The Bears (7-3) will host the Steelers (6-4) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
