(670 The Score) Veteran guard Joe Thuney and the Bears have agreed to a two-year contract extension, his agent said Tuesday morning.
Thuney, 32, was acquired by the Bears in a trade with the Chiefs in March. He was entering the final year of his current contract. The two-year extension is worth up to $35 million and includes $33.5 million guaranteed, NFL Media reported. Thuney is now under contract through 2027.
Thuney is a three-time Pro Bowl guard and four-time Super Bowl champion who has played for the Patriots and Chiefs in his nine-year NFL career.
The Bears are slated to start Thuney at left guard this season. Signing Thuney to an extension was a priority for the team, general manager Ryan Poles said in April.
“I’m grateful to be here and I’m pumped to play," Thuney said in March of a possible extension. "I’ll let the business side of it handle itself. Excited to get on the field with the guys in OTAs and I’m excited to start working.”
The deal between Thuney and the Bears was struck Tuesday morning as the team began its first of nine practices for OTAs at Halas Hall.
