Bears' Matt Eberflus on Justin Fields' 52-yard touchdown run being called back: 'We thought it was a good block'

(670 The Score) Bears receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette's late fumble wasn't his only costly miscue in Chicago's 29-22 loss at Minnesota on Sunday.

With about 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Bears trailing 21-19, Smith-Marsette was also flagged for an illegal block-in-the-back infraction, which negated quarterback Justin Fields' 52-yard touchdown run around the left side. From his perspective, Bears coach Matt Eberflus didn't think it was a penalty on Smith-Marsette, though he acknowledged it was a close call to decipher.

"That was an effort play by Smith," Eberflus said on WBBM 780 Newsradio on Monday morning. "We thought it was a good block. But again, that was up to the interpretation of the refs, and that's what they called."

Here's a look at the play.

The Bears dropped to 2-3 with the loss. They host the Commanders on Thursday evening at Soldier Field.
