Bears release FB Khari Blasingame, waive WR Velus Jones Jr.

(670 The Score) The Bears on Friday released veteran fullback Khari Blasingame and waived receiver Velus Jones Jr.

Blasingame and Jones have each been healthy inactives in recent weeks. In cutting those two, the Bears have cleared roster spots for defensive end Jacob Martin, running back Travis Homer and/or offensive tackle Larry Borom, who are each eligible to be activated from injured reserve.

Blasingame, 28, had been with the Bears since 2022, but he fell out of a role as the team turned to offensive lineman Doug Kramer as its fullback. A vested veteran, Blasingame is eligible to be signed immediately.

Jones, 27, was a third-round pick of the Bears in 2022. He had two touchdowns over three seasons but struggled to establish a consistent role. Jones must pass through waivers before he can be signed.

The Bears (4-2) will take on the Commanders (5-2) on Sunday at Washington's Northwest Stadium.
