Bears release defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker, tight end Gerald Everett

(670 The Score) The Bears on Friday released veteran defensive end DeMarcus Walker and tight end Gerald Everett in salary cap-clearing moves.

Walker, 30, had seven sacks over two seasons with the Bears, who will save $5.25 million in salary cap space with his release. Everett, 30, had eight catches last season. The Bears will save $5.5 million on their salary cap sheet by releasing Everett.

"Chicago, it was brief and a learning experience but I appreciate the love the city and the team showed me," Everett wrote on X. "Looking forward to the next chapter. On to the next!"

Walker played the first two seasons of a three-year, $21-million contract that he signed in March 2023. Everett signed a two-year, $12-million contract last March.

The NFL has projected its salary cap to be in the range of $277 million to $281 million for 2025. While numbers aren't finalized yet, the Bears will be among the NFL teams with the most salary cap space.

The NFL open negotiation period will begin on March 10.
