Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson is weighing possibility of groin surgery, refutes notion he rushed back from injury

(670 The Score) Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson had a short-lived return from a groin injury Sunday in Detroit, and it might’ve marked his lone action in the 2025 season.

After missing the Bears' loss in their season opener due to a groin injury he suffered in July, Johnson suffered another injury to his groin during the second quarter of Chicago's 52-21 loss at Detroit on Sunday. After Johnson tore the adductor off his pelvis in July, this new issue was "the other side of the top of it was compromised," he told the Spiegel & Holmes Show on Monday.

There's no official timetable for how long Johnson will be sidelined, but it will be quite some time and he acknowledge he could miss the rest of the season. While he suffered a similar injury to what he was already dealing with, Johnson refuted the notion that he returned to the field too soon.

“I wouldn’t say there was any rushing involved,” Johnson said. “I think it was definitely a sense of urgency, I would say, to get back. But no rushing or doing anything reckless. I would just say I felt comfortable playing. I know if I didn’t feel comfortable, I wouldn’t have played, no matter what anybody was saying.”

Johnson, who earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 and 2024, played 20 snaps Sunday after he was a full participant in practice last week. He suffered the injury while extending himself to break up a pass in the second quarter.

The Bears evaluated Johnson on the sideline, then later took him to the locker room for further assessment.

Johnson doesn't know yet whether he'll undergo surgery, though he acknowledged it could be in his future.

“It’s kind of everything as a whole in that region needs to get repaired,” Johnson said. “I'm trying to figure out where I want to go from there, of course the time trying to see what's the best option, who's the best option, what that looks like, the timelines and things like that."
