Reports: Justin Fields agrees to a 2-year deal with Jets

(WFAN) The Jets reportedly have their quarterback for the 2025 season.

The Jets on Monday reached a deal with former Bears quarterback Justin Fields shortly after NFL open negotiation window begin, according to multiple reports, locking up the team’s replacement for Aaron Rodgers, who's expected to sign with the Steelers, Fields’ former team.

Fields' contract is for two years and $40 million, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported.

Fields made six starts and appeared in 10 games for Pittsburgh last season, posting a 4-2 record as a starter while completing 106 of 161 passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. The 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Fields turned 26 years old last week.

Fields will likely be the Jets' stopgap solution as the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey searches for the team’s long-term answer at quarterback, though Fields’ youth offers at least some potential upside that he can turn into something more than a bridge.

Fields holds a 61.1 completion percentage with 7,780 passing yards, 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions through four NFL seasons, the first three of them coming with the Bears. He led the league in yards per rushing attempt in 2022 and ran for five touchdowns as Russell Wilson’s backup in 2024.
