(670 The Score) Commanders guard Nick Allegretti was surprised to hear the news Wednesday morning that All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney had been traded from the Chiefs to the Bears.
Allegretti, who was Thuney’s teammate for three seasons in Kansas City, explained what the Bears are getting in Thuney during an appearance on the Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning.
“He’s not a guy you expect to be traded,” Allegretti said. “Obviously, there’s contract stuff that has to happen. But he is – I've said this for years – one of the best guards in this league, and he’s been that way since probably his third or fourth year in the league. Has not gotten the publicity of a Zack Martin or someone like that, but in terms of consistency, intelligence and just his ability to adapt to new cultures – he's been a part of two of the best cultures-slash-dynasties that you can think of in NFL history. So, they’re getting an incredible football player.”
The Bears will send a 2026 fourth-round pick back to the Chiefs to acquire Thuney, who’s a three-time Pro Bowl player and a four-time Super Bowl champion. The deal can’t become official until 3 p.m. CT on March 12, when the new league year begins.
