(670 The Score) The Bears have hired Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant, the team announced Wednesday evening.
Pettine was the Packers' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons and previously was the Browns' head coach in 2014-'15. He'll give the Bears a veteran presence for first-year defensive coordinator Sean Desai, who was promoted in January after previously being Chicago's safeties coach.
Pettine wasn't retained by the Packers after the 2020 season, with the team letting his contract expire. Under the watch of Pettine, Green Bay ranked ninth in total defense and 13th in scoring defense this past season.
The 54-year-old Pettine has been coaching in the NFL since 2002.
