(670 The Score) The Bears have made a key addition to their secondary, as as they signed veteran defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to their active roster Wednesday.
Gardner-Johnson, 27, is a seven-year NFL veteran who played three games with the Texans this season before being released in September. He was most recently with the Ravens' practice squad.
Gardner-Johnson has played 77 career NFL games with four different teams, including three seasons with the Saints. In New Orleans, he played for a defense that was led by current Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
By signing Gardner-Johnson, the Bears have added depth at safety and also a potential presence at the nickelback position. The team placed top nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon on injured reserve Saturday, meaning he'll have to miss at least the next three games.
The Bears (4-3) will play the Bengals (3-4) on Sunday in Cincinnati.
