(104.3 The Score) The Bears are trading defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. to the Falcons for cornerback Clark Phillips III and a fifth-round pick, a source confirmed.
Dexter, 24, was a three-year starter for the Bears. He was a second-round pick in 2023, playing 49 games for the team at defensive tackle.
The Bears began shopping Dexter for trades this week. His market included the Falcons, now led by general manager Ian Cunningham, who was assistant general manager in Chicago the last four years.
The Bears were willing to shop Dexter after investing in their defensive line this offseason. Chicago added defensive tackles Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street and James Lynch in free agency, then selected Jordan van den Berg in the sixth round. That seemed to enhance the comfort in dealing Dexter away.
Phillips, 24, was a fourth-round pick to the Falcons in 2023. He has played three seasons in Atlanta, offering depth and flexibility to the secondary in Chicago.
The deal was struck on Sunday morning, this with roster cuts due by 5 p.m. CT.
