Titans pass on Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham, are set to hire Mike Borgonzi as their new GM

(670 The Score) Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham isn't bound for Tennessee.

The Titans are set to hire Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their new general manager, according to multiple reports Friday. That means Cunningham, who was a finalist for the job in Tennessee, was passed up for the position.

Cunningham has been with the Bears since 2022, when he was hired by general manager Ryan Poles to become the first assistant general manager in franchise history.

Cunningham has been a coveted general manager candidate in past hiring cycles, though he has remained with the Bears. Cunningham previously worked for the Ravens (2008-'16) and Eagles (2017-'21) before joining the Bears.

“He can be an NFL GM, and he can be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told 670 The Score of Cunningham in August. “That’s the way his mind processes information.

“The ultimate compliment I can give Ian is that I'm a better GM because I worked with Ian Cunningham.”

Poles has excused Cunningham from the Bears' ongoing search for a head coach, allowing him to focus on his own candidacy for a potential new job. With Cunningham missing out on a chance to lead the Titans, he can return to Poles' side as a key lieutenant in this pivotal offseason.

Borgonzi is the brother of Bears linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi and worked alongside Poles in the Chiefs' front office.
