The 28-year-old McCabe had 22 points (four points, 18 assists) in 75 games with Chicago last season. His timeline for a return means he’ll be out until late November or early December and will likely miss at least the first 18 games of the regular season.

In other injury news, forward prospect Jalen Luypen is expected to be out 14 to 18 weeks after recently having an operation to repair his left rotator cuff, the team said.

The Blackhawks open the regular season on Oct. 12 by visiting the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.
