(104.3 The Score) Veteran right-hander Jameson Taillon has been designated for assignment by the Cubs.
Taillon, 34, was 2-6 with a 5.92 ERA in 15 starts this season. He allowed three home runs and seven earned runs in the Cubs' 8-7 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, marking the end of his tenure.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after the loss that the team had a looming decision on whether Taillon would remain in the rotation. That decision was reached Monday as Taillon was designated for assignment.
Taillon was working the final season of a four-year deal with the Cubs. He was 33-31 with a 4.21 ERA in 96 games with the team.
The Cubs selected the contract of right-hander Andrew Wantz from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding roster move.
The Cubs start up a four-game series with the Cardinals on Monday in St. Louis.
