(670 The Score) The Cubs will call up promising pitching prospect Caleb Kilian to make his major-league debut Saturday at Wrigley Field, manager David Ross said.

Kilian will start the Cubs' game Saturday evening, the second contest in a doubleheader with the Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. CT from Wrigley Field. Kilian's opportunity in the rotation came after the Cubs placed left-handers Drew Smyly (right oblique strain) and Wade Miley (left shoulder strain) on the injured list this week.

The 25-year-old Kilian was acquired by the Cubs last July in a deal with the Giants that sent star infielder Kris Bryant to San Francisco. Chicago also acquired outfielder prospect Alexander Canario.

Kilian is 2-0 with a 2.06 ERA this season with the Cubs' Triple-A Affiliate in Iowa.

The Cubs lost 14-5 to the Cardinals on Friday at Wrigley Field, falling to 22-30 on the season.
