(Audacy) When thinking of the greatest architects of all time, the names that come to mind are Frank Lloyd Wright, Antoni Gaudi … and Theo Epstein?
You got that right. Epstein is baseball’s greatest curse-breaker, and for all we know, we could currently be in Year 113 of the Cubs’ championship drought if not for the roster that Epstein constructed in 2016 when he was the team's president of baseball operations. You won’t find him hogging the spotlight though.
Epstein looked back on that 2016 Cubs championship run on the aptly-titled Audacy and MLB podcast “The Run -- 2016 Chicago Cubs" and stayed humble throughout his reflection.
“I don’t take any extra satisfaction in being a quote-unquote character in this narrative,” Epstein said. "And frankly I find it really annoying when they show any executives — especially me — in the stands, because our job’s behind the scenes and the players are the ones determining everyone’s fate.”

But it’s not as if Epstein won’t take any credit at all, and he looks back on that time fondly due to all the hard work and camaraderie it required.
“How does it feel to know, deep down know, that the work I put in with my brothers and sisters in the front office mattered?" Epstein said. "And contributed to that? It means everything. That’s the reward, that’s incredible satisfaction of a job well done.”
