Tommy Hottovy: Cubs' pitching staff is 'starting to come together'

(670 The Score) The Cubs have won eight of their last 10 games and are inching closer toward the top of the NL Central. Throughout the course of this season, the strength of the team has been its pitching staff.

The Cubs’ starting rotation owns a 3.90 ERA, which ranks sixth in MLB entering play Tuesday, and the bullpen has settled in to become more reliable lately after struggling for much of the season. Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy is pleased with what he has seen from his entire staff lately.

“Things are starting to come together,” Hottovy said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Tuesday. “I think the things we work on all year, you know things are heading in the right direction and you know you continue to put guys in the right position to be successful, but sometimes it just doesn’t all click right away. I think we’re at that point in the season now where we kind of know where guys are. Obviously, it helps when your starting pitching kind of solidifies some performance there and keeps teams in games for a long time.”

The Cubs (34-38) are 3.5 games back of the first-place Reds in the NL Central race. They take on the Pirates on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.
