(670 The Score) The White Sox's decision Thursday to internally promote assistant general manager Chris Getz to be their new senior vice president/general manager was met with widespread criticism from fans and pundits alike.
That included from Score midday host Dan Bernstein.
"There's nothing inspiring about this," Bernstein said. "There's nothing energizing about it, even though they use that word – that he's going to 'energize' the organization. He is the organization."
Getz has been with the White Sox since late 2016, overseeing what's long been a weak farm system, save for the occasions in which the team traded established big league talent for highly rated prospects. With that in mind, Bernstein was also dumbfounded that the White Sox didn't conduct a longer, wide-ranging search for a new top baseball executive, even if it was just to hear new ideas and get honest feedback from respected outsiders during interviews.
"They don't want the answer, because they know the answer – the answer if you've got to spend a lot more money to modernize everything you're doing," Bernstein said.
