(670 The Score) When White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu hit a grand slam in Seattle on Tuesday night that marked his 200th career home run, closer Liam Hendriks was essentially taken off duty thanks to Chicago opening up a seven-run lead with the blast.
So, Hendriks instead went to work on another task -- attempting to track down Abreu's milestone home run ball, which landed in the stands above the White Sox bullpen. Hendriks and several other White Sox relievers yelled up toward the Mariners fans in attendance, looking to locate the baseball and retrieve it for Abreu. Hendriks found himself offering whatever it took to get Abreu's home run, as he explained on the Bernstein & Rahimi Show on Thursday morning.
"Ask him, whatever he wants, I'll take care of it, whether it's a jersey or whatever it is," Hendriks said. "You find me, I'll take care of it, it'll be on his back by the time he leaves tonight. I'll make sure it happens."
As it turned out, the price to pay wasn't steep. The fan agreed to hand over Abreu's home run ball in exchange for a baseball autographed by the Mariners.
"He was pretty happy with that," Hendriks said.
The White Sox went 3-4 on their seven-game road trip to open the season. Weather permitting, they'll host the Royals in their home opener at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday afternoon.
