(670 The Score) The White Sox are still trying to fill their second base void before the 2023 season begins.
Chicago has expressed interest in trading for Kansas City infielder Nicky Lopez, Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported Tuesday afternoon. So far, the Royals have resisted those overtures, believing Lopez will be a needed utilityman for them, Rosenthal reported.
Lopez, 27, hit .227 with no homers, 20 RBIs and a .554 OPS in 141 games in 2022. That rough season at the plate came after Lopez had a strong 2021, when he hit .300 with a .744 OPS in 151 games. Lopez has extensive experience playing second base and shortstop in his four-year MLB career.
As it sits now, Romy Gonzalez and Lenyn Sosa are set to compete for the White Sox’s second base job, with Leury Garcia also likely to factor into the mix as well.
