(670 The Score) The White Sox won’t pick up second baseman Cesar Hernandez’s $6-million team option for the 2022 season, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported Friday.

Chicago acquired Hernandez from Cleveland in a trade in July. Hernandez hit .232 with three homers, 15 RBIs and a .608 OPS in 53 games with the White Sox, who ended up falling to the Astros in four games in the American League Division Series.
“We don’t regret being aggressive,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Friday of adding making a series of acquisitions at the trade deadline. “We don’t regret addressing what we felt were clear needs at the time.
“Obviously, it didn’t work out because those moves were made with the goal of winning a World Series.”
Hernandez’s exit leaves the White Sox with a void at second base, as they already traded Nick Madrigal to the Cubs in the deal that brought reliever Craig Kimbrel to the South Side. Utilityman Leury Garcia is an option to help fill second base should the White Sox bring him back as he hits free agency.
