(670 The Score) The White Sox have declined their $14-million team option on shortstop Tim Anderson’s contract for 2024, the club announced Saturday.

Anderson, 30, will now enter free agency after spending his entire eight-year MLB career on the South Side. He’s owed $1 million on a buyout as part of his contract.

After being an All-Star in 2021 and 2022, Anderson had an injury-plagued, poor 2023 season in which he hit .245 with just one homer and a .582 OPS in 123 games.

If Anderson's time with the White Sox is indeed over — they could conceivably still negotiate a new deal with him in free agency, but the team already sent out a farewell message on social media — they'll have a hole to fill at shortstop. Their top prospect is 21-year-old shortstop Colson Montgomery, but he probably isn’t quite big league-ready yet as it pertains to 2024 Opening Day.
